Understanding Our Skip Sizes
Not sure which skip to choose? As a general rule, it’s better to go one size larger than you think you need. The cost difference between sizes is small, and ordering a second skip once the first is full costs more than simply upsizing from the start. Most projects in Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme, particularly loft conversions, kitchen refits and full house clearances in the area’s Victorian and Edwardian stock, need more skip space than people initially expect.
Mini 2 Yard Skip
Ideal for small projects, our 2-yard skips offer a compact solution for managing waste from garden clearances, bathroom renovations, or minor construction tasks. Hire a 2 yard skip for as little as £120 + VAT. Our 2 Yard Skips come with 2 Day hire as standard.
Midi 4 Yard Skip
Ideal for small-scale projects, our 4-yard skips offer a compact solution for managing waste from garden clearances, bathroom renovations, or minor construction tasks. These skips are both cost-effective and space-saving. Hire a 4 yard skip for as little as £160 + VAT.
Midi+ 6 Yard Skip
Suitable for medium-sized projects, our 6-yard skips are perfect for handling waste generated by landscaping work, refurbishments, or office clear-outs. This size is also favoured by builders and contractors for waste management. Hire a 6 yard skip for £190 + VAT.

Maxi 7 Yard Skip
Designed to accommodate larger volumes of waste, our 7-yard skips cater to substantial renovation projects, large-scale landscaping endeavours, and commercial construction sites. Hire a 7 yard skip for £220 + VAT.
Maxi 8 Yard Skip
Designed to accommodate even bigger volumes of waste, our 8-yard skips offer an even greater solution to cater to large-scale landscaping endeavours, and commercial construction sites. Hire an 8 yard skip for £240 + VAT.

Cheadle Skip Hire FAQs
Do I need a permit for a skip in Cheadle, and how do I get one?
Whether you need a permit depends entirely on where the skip is going, not which street you’re on. The rule is straightforward: skips on private land don’t need a permit, but skips on public land do.
If your skip will sit on your driveway, in your garden, or on any land that belongs to your property, no permit is needed. If it needs to go on a public road, pavement or verge, you need a permit issued by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
We handle the full application on your behalf. When booking, simply select “I need a permit” in the form and add it for £30. We’ll submit the application to Stockport Council, supply the required cones and lights, and position them correctly when we deliver. All of this is included in that fee. Permits are typically processed within 24 to 48 hours and are valid for up to 28 days.
Local tip: If you’re on a road with residents’ parking or double yellow lines, such as streets off Councillor Lane or Turves Road, a permit is required even for a very short hire. When in doubt, add one at checkout. It’s far simpler than dealing with a council notice after delivery.
Which skip size do I need for my project in Cheadle?
The right size depends on the type and volume of waste, but here’s a practical guide for the most common projects we see in the Cheadle area:
- 2 yard mini skip (£120 + VAT): A single room declutter, small garden tidy, or bathroom strip-out with no structural work. Holds roughly 20 to 25 bin bags. Note this comes with 2-day hire only. It’s designed for a quick clear, not a long renovation.
- 4 yard midi skip (£160 + VAT): A full kitchen or bathroom rip-out including tiles, units and plasterboard. Holds 35 to 40 bin bags. Popular for the terraced and semi-detached properties throughout Cheadle Hulme and Gatley where space on the drive is limited.
- 6 yard midi+ skip (£190 + VAT): Full house clearances, loft conversions, or larger garden landscaping projects. Holds 55 to 60 bin bags. This is the most popular size across Cheadle Village and the older Victorian stock on and around Councillor Lane.
- 7 yard maxi skip (£220 + VAT): Major refurbishments, extensions, or projects generating significant structural waste including bricks, concrete or roofing materials. Holds 65 to 70 bin bags.
- 8 yard maxi+ skip (£240 + VAT): Commercial clearances, large construction sites, or multi-room full refurbishments. Holds 75 to 80 bin bags.
If you’re unsure, it’s almost always better to size up rather than down. A skip that runs over is a problem, and the price difference between sizes is small relative to the cost of ordering a second skip. Call us on 0161 843 4444 and we’ll help you choose.
Do you cover Cheadle Hulme, Gatley and Heald Green as well as Cheadle?
Yes. We cover the full SK8 postcode area without restriction, including Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley and Heald Green. We also deliver to neighbouring postcodes including SK3 (Edgeley and Cheadle Heath), SK7 (Bramhall and Handforth), SK4 (Heaton Moor border areas) and M22 (Wythenshawe borders).
Cheadle Hulme village centre is one of our more frequent delivery areas, though it does come with a few placement considerations. The village centre has limited kerb space and residents’ parking zones on several approach roads. If you’re in the village centre or nearby, give us a call before booking and we’ll advise on the best placement option for your specific address.
Enter your full postcode in the booking form above to confirm availability and see your exact delivery cost.
How quickly can you deliver a skip to Cheadle?
For most addresses in the SK8 area, next-day delivery is our standard. Book before 2pm and we’ll aim to have your skip with you the following morning.
Same-day delivery is often possible if you call us before 11am on 0161 843 4444. Availability depends on where our fleet is on the day, but we’ll always do our best if you need something urgently. Same-day requests can’t be taken through the online form, so a phone call is the way to go.
If you need a permit for a road placement, bear in mind that Stockport Council typically takes 24 to 48 hours to process the application. We’d recommend booking at least two days in advance if a permit is required, to avoid any delay on your start date.
Local tip: If you’re managing a trade project with a specific start date, book 3 to 4 days ahead to allow for permit processing time and any unexpected changes to your schedule.
How long is the hire period, and what if I need the skip longer?
All skip sizes from 4 yard upwards come with 7 days hire included in the price. Our 2 yard mini skip comes with 2 days as standard, reflecting its intended use for short, focused clearances.
If you need longer, you can add extra days at £5 per day at checkout. There’s no upper limit on extended hire, so if you’re working on a longer renovation project and want the skip on site for two or three weeks, that’s no problem at all.
Most customers in Cheadle find that 7 days is ample for a typical home project. A kitchen rip-out, garden clearance or bathroom renovation can usually be completed and loaded within that window. Loft conversions or larger refurbishments sometimes run to 10 to 14 days, which is easily covered with a few additional days added at booking.
If you’re not sure how long you’ll need, you can always call us when the skip is full and arrange early collection.
What can and can't go in a skip in Cheadle?
Our skips accept the vast majority of household and construction waste, including general rubbish and furniture, garden waste, soil and rubble, bricks and concrete, timber and wood, carpets and flooring, plasterboard, metals and packaging.
The following items cannot go in any of our skips due to legal disposal requirements:
- Asbestos (requires specialist licensed disposal)
- Fridges and freezers (contain refrigerant gas and must be disposed of separately)
- TVs and monitors (contain hazardous materials)
- Fluorescent tubes and strip lighting
- Tyres
- Gas cylinders
- Mattresses (can be added for a surcharge, ask when booking)
- Lead acid and vehicle batteries
- Paint cans containing liquid paint
For most of these items, Stockport Council’s Adswood Road Household Waste Recycling Centre (SK3) accepts them free of charge. Booking is required via stockport.gov.uk. If you’re unsure about a specific item, call us before loading and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Local tip: Plasterboard is accepted but must not be mixed with other waste. It needs to be bagged separately or go in a dedicated skip. If you have a significant amount of plasterboard, mention it when you book.
Where should I put the skip on my property in Cheadle?
Ideally on a hard surface on your own property, such as a driveway, patio or hardstanding area. This avoids the need for a permit and keeps the skip off the road entirely. Most properties in Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme have driveways wide enough for a 4 or 6 yard skip. Larger 7 and 8 yard skips may need more space, so it’s worth checking dimensions with us if your drive is on the narrower side.
If a driveway placement isn’t possible and the skip needs to go on the road, a few things to be aware of in the Cheadle area:
- Streets off Councillor Lane, Turves Road and Grove Lane have residents’ parking zones. A permit is required and we’ll arrange it for you.
- Several roads in Cheadle Hulme village centre have very limited kerb space. Call us and we’ll advise on the best option for your road.
- If your property has a dropped kerb, the skip must not block it. We’ll position it to keep the kerb clear.
- Roads near the A34 and B5094 junctions can be busy. We’ll ensure cones and lights are correctly placed to keep the skip legal and safe.
Not sure about your specific address? Call 0161 843 4444 and we’ll talk it through before you book.
How do you dispose of and recycle the waste from my skip?
Once we collect your skip, the waste is taken to a licensed waste transfer station where it’s sorted and processed. We work to maximise the amount of material that is recycled or recovered rather than sent to landfill, including metals, timber, clean aggregates, cardboard and certain plastics.
MW Skips holds the following licences, which you can verify independently:
- Waste Carrier Licence: 50545776
- Waste Management Licence: 50299
- Scrap Licence: 111838
- Hazardous Waste Registration: ABA545
If you want to maximise recycling before filling the skip, Stockport Council’s Adswood Road HWRC on Adswood Road (SK3) accepts a wide range of materials and is the nearest facility to most SK8 addresses. Booking is required via stockport.gov.uk.
How do I arrange collection when my skip is full?
Your hire period starts from the date of delivery. If you fill the skip before the end of your hire period and want it collected early, just call us on 0161 843 4444 and we’ll arrange collection, usually within 1 to 2 working days.
At the end of your hire period, we’ll automatically arrange collection. You don’t need to call to trigger this. If you need a little more time, call or email us before the hire period ends and we can extend at £5 per day.
One important point: skips must not be overfilled. Waste should not sit above the top edge of the skip. This is a legal requirement for road transport safety and our drivers won’t be able to collect a skip that’s loaded above the rim. If you’re running out of space, call us and we can discuss swapping to a larger size or arranging a mid-hire empty and return.
